Drink: Stoli Darkening Theater

Over the weekend, when summer hit New York City with an August-like force, we found ourselves between movies and in need of a sustenance break. It was super hot outside, and our body temp was adjusted to movie-theater cold, not blazing sun. We suddenly remembered we'd been meaning to try the Darkening Theater, a Stoli cocktail designed exclusively by B.R. Guest mixologist Eben Klemm and available at five fantastic restaurants around town: Blue Fin, Blue Water Grill, Primehouse New York, Vento and Wildwood Barbeque.

So we headed to Wildwood BBQ on Park Avenue South, and there it was: the cocktail version of a theatrical homage to the concession stand. We learned that when Klemm was tasked with creating a drink in honor of the Tribeca Film Festival, the first thing he did was head down to the AMC Village VII on Third Avenue and 11th Street. He asked for buckets of popcorn—with loads of extra butter—which he brought back and immediately dumped into some Stoli vodka. After infusing it for a while, he mixed the vodka with salted coke syrup and lemon, and garnished it with caramel popcorn. Voilà! The Darkening Theater was born.

One sip and we were hooked. It's an adult version of all your favorite movie theater staples, all rolled into one. If you are at Wildwood, pair it with some jalapeno bottle caps for an added kick. The Darkened Theater is available for a limited time only, so don't miss out. Besides, sunshine is overrated—during the Festival, anyway.
