Closing Night: My Life in Ruins

Rounding out the slate for the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival, Tribeca today announced this year's closing film, presented by founding sponsor American Express. My Life in Ruins, which promises to be a Festival-ending crowdpleaser, stars Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) and Richard Dreyfuss. Donald Petrie directs, and the script was written by Mike Reiss, Emmy winner for The Simpsons.
"This year's Festival has a number of fun and light-hearted films for our audience to enjoy. We are delighted to bring them another crowd-pleasing film, My Life in Ruins, to celebrate our closing night," said Jane Rosenthal, co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival.
So what's the film about? Vardalos plays Georgia, a travel guide who takes tourists on tours of her native Greece and is unhappy with both her work- and love-lives. On a particular trip, she starts to work out the kinks and find her kefi (the Greeks' version of mojo). Can she find love as well? María Ádanez, Sheila Bernette, María Botto, Rachel Dratch, Alexis Georgoulis, Ralph Nossek, Bernice Stegers, and Harland Williams round out the cast. Several cast members will be on hand at the special screening, planned for Saturday, May 2, at BMCC's Tribeca Performing Arts Center.
Director Donald Petrie said, "We are excited and thrilled that My Life In Ruins is receiving the honor of being the closing night event at the Tribeca Fest. I can't think of a better launching pad for our film." The film, a Fox Searchlight release, will open nationwide on June 5, 2009.
Join Vardalos and Petrie at a FREE talk at the Apple Store in Soho on Friday, May 1, at 7:00 pm.
