Carly Simon: You're So Vain Contest

Carly Simon
's smash hit You're So Vain has been a pop culture touchstone (and terrific parlor game: is the song about Warren Beatty? Cat Stevens? Kris Kristofferson?) since it was originally released in 1972, but it's never had a music video that did it justice. That's where you come in.

Simon, in association with the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival and AOL's Spinner.com, will be judging user submissions for a special You're So Vain video contest. (See her video above.) You can choose to make a video for either the original version of You're So Vain or the version on Simon's most recent album, Never Been Gone, released this past October.

The deadline is April 15, and the contest details are listed on the official contest website. Carly's own website is kind of awesome, too—you can see the video entries as they come in, and Carly herself even has a video journal. And in case you're still getting your bearings when it comes to making music videos (and who isn't, really?), download templates and tools to make your video here.

The winning video will not only premiere online on AOL's music portal Spinner.com, but it will also be shown at TFF 2010. The winner even gets to meet the non-diva herself, and maybe find out just exactly who's so vain. We can hope!

And yes, this blog post is about you...

Need to hear the whole song RIGHT NOW?
Warning: it will be in your head all day. That's not a bad thing.
