Discuss: What Will Win the 2010 Heineken Audience Award?

movie audience

The Heineken Audience Award is all about you, Festival-goers, and which movies make you laugh, cry, gasp, and applaud.

Last year's big winner was the crowd-pleaser City Island, which was released in NYC and LA on March 19, thanks to Anchor Bay. The second and third place winners were both documentaries, Racing Dreams and Midgets vs. Mascots. Racing Dreams also took home the Best Documentary Feature Award, sponsored by Bialla & Associates, and DreamWorks is planning to adapt it. Meanwhile, the fourth place winner, Departures, took home the Best Foreign Film Oscar in 2009!

Previous winners have leaned heavily towards documentaries, including War Child (2008), We Are Together (2007), Cats of Mirikitani (2006), Street Fight (2005), and Every Mother's Son in 2004. The 2003 award was split between a feature, Together, and the documentary Keeping Time: The Life, Music & Photography of Milt Hinton. (You can download the full list of Tribeca Film Festival winners in PDF form here.)

It's always a mixed bag here at the Tribeca Film Festival, since there are so many different types of films to choose from. Will it be a sports documentary? A drama? A family flick?

Daily current standings will be posted on the Heineken Audience Award landing page. Check out what's hot, consult the film guide, and weigh in below on what you think will be taking home $25,000 from Heineken.

(Note: Actual votes for the Heineken Audience Award are cast at theatrical screenings at TFF in NYC. When you see a movie, don't forget to vote!)

I think SPORK will take the win. From everything I have seen so far, the kids are going to be stars and the message is about our time, "Love yourself and keep your world as crazy, off the charts, and as odd as you want... just be you. You're beautiful." Director J.B Ghuman explains in the directors statement. I cant wait to see it up on the big screen, its totally the movie I am the most excited to watch at Tribeca!! http://www.tribecafilm.com/filmguide/spork-film28978.html
My guess is SPORK by Roger on April 16, 2010 12:08 PM
it seems off center, interesting, great new talented young faces, overall good message and humor that is widely targeted...glad we got our tickets, they are listed as rush only now today...might have needed a larger venue I'd think.
The first surfing with soul by Dolores Holder on April 19, 2010 05:22 AM
Keep Surfing took the audience choice award at the Munich film fest by a landslide. I was able to see it and even though it had no english subtitle at that point and i understand not a single word in German it was an amazing film. Even as surfing has become a major sport worldwide no one has made a film that is so rich in substance as this film. The usual suspects like Kelly Slater and other famous surfers are just a supporting cast to a 6 central figures who's "ordinary" lives showcase why surfing is a spiritual journey that has nothing to do with pro surfing, or surf magazines, or people saying "dude" way to often. This film is just that... A FILM! It is a film for everyone, not just people who surf. This film will make you laugh, this film will make you cry, this film will make your blood pump and all because some people do whatever it takes, with no concern of money or fame, to KEEP SURFING. This film will make you want to KEEP LIVING!

Beware the Gonzo by Trixie on April 25, 2010 08:22 AM
Beware the Gonzo really seems like a crowdpleaser that a lot of people like. And it has Ezra Miller, from last year's winner, City Island!
Billy Joel by rachel on April 26, 2010 06:43 PM
Last Play at Shea -- great!!
Snowmen by Bob G. on April 28, 2010 08:30 AM
Have you seen this little gem- Snowmen? Really think it is going to take this award- it is a throw back to Goonies and Stand by Me- really a different film for Tribeca. See it!
mspiggy on April 28, 2010 10:04 AM
The Space Between should take this award, it is a must see film for everyone! Melissa Leo gives an incredible performance, surrounded by a wonderful cast of characters, you cannot help but fall in love with. Travis Fine directs a touching and insightful film with a story evolving around the events of 911.

Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll was a real highlight for me. A fantastic film with a brilliant cast. Vibrant and inspiring.

I saw SNOWMEN cause my kids were in the city and I told the producer I'd support his little movie. Didn't see that coming. Didn't see that coming at all at a film festival. What a surprise. Great movie. This is a film about friendship basically. It will shake you up if you're a parent. Didn't think my kids would like it. LOVED it. Now I'm taking a group to see it on Saturday (FREEBIE screening). I just read Liotta will be there. I gotta shake his hand.
Audience Award - Zonad by Sean on April 30, 2010 08:19 AM
Zonad for sure! Hilarious
winners...not by Filmjunkie on April 30, 2010 12:27 PM
I don't know which film is going to take the win, but I totally disagree with whoever said that SPORK is going to win. The movie was cute at times, but for the most part, it ended up being the bomb of my choices. The kids are talented, but the story was just too weird, and some of the choices the director made were just random and didn't need to be added to the story. We loved Last Play at Shea, Rush: Behind the Lighted Stage, "Sons of Perdition", and "Dog Pound."
spork alreday won audience favorite for virtual by ricky on April 30, 2010 12:52 PM
to filmjunkie...I loved it! isnt that what this experience is all about? each finding a film that they love? Dog Pound was awesome too though!! missed Rush...
Rush Beyond the Lighted Stage by Charlers on April 30, 2010 09:50 PM
There is no way any film can beat the Rush film when it comes to best loved by the audience. I attended the premiere and no movie ever got that much applause that I have ever attended.
SNOWMEN by joe stein on May 01, 2010 05:21 AM
Beautiful story with a lasting and uplifting message - such a relief from the stuff so prevalent in today's movie market! SHOULD TAKE THE AWARD!
Monica Velour by filmguy on May 01, 2010 01:21 PM
For my money... this was the best film of the fest.
