Drive-Ins! Panels! Family Festival Street Fair! ESPN Sports Day! Check out all the cool FREE stuff at this year's Tribeca Film Festival.
As we do every year, the Tribeca Film Festival, presented by Founding Sponsor American Express®, is rolling out plenty of cool free events for fans and families. 
Tribeca Drive-In
The Tribeca Drive-In is an outdoor screening series that takes place at the World Financial Center Plaza and will run from April 22 to April 24. These free screenings, co-sponsored by Caesars Atlantic City and hosted by Brookfield, owner of the World Financial Center, also have cool live performances to go with the movies.
Movie fans who attend the screening of the HBO documentary The Spirit of Salsa, which takes place on Thursday, April 22, can watch professional salsa dancers, listen to live salsa music, enter dancing contests, and even take salsa lessons themselves—all for free.
Before the screening of the all-ages classic Big on Friday, April 23, there will be plenty of kid-friendly activities like face-painting, games, trivia, live music, and fortune-telling (and, who knows, maybe a big keyboard for everyone to dance on).
Everyone who goes to see the awesome BMX documentary The Birth of Big Air will get a special treat afterwards as the subject of the doc, Mat Hoffman (aka The Condor) performs some of his dazzling stunts for the crowd.
Family Festival Street Fair
The Tribeca Family Festival Street Fair, presented by Founding Sponsor American Express, will take place on Saturday, May 1, from 10 am to 6 pm in three different areas of Tribeca: Greenwich Street from Chambers St. to Harrison St., BMCC Tribeca PAC (199 Chambers St. bet. Greenwich St. and West St.), and Washington Market Park (Chambers St. at Greenwich St.).
This open-air fair features a special red carpet for everyone to take a turn on, a free (ticketed) screening of the feature Snowmen, puppeteers, stilt-walkers, sand sculptors, and lots of other cool stuff to check out. Mike D of the Beastie Boys will be there, too, as part of a Guitar Play-In to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Church Street School for Music and Art.
Tribeca/ESPN Sports Day
Part of the Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival, the Tribeca/ESPN Sports Day will also be on Saturday, May 1, from 10 AM to 6 PM on Duane Street between Greenwich Street and Hudson Street. Sports fans can meet Mr. Met, take pitching and throwing classes with the New York Women's Baseball Association, check out the BMX Jams Tour, and enjoy performances and appearances by members of many local professional teams.
Free Panels
Several of the Tribeca Talks panels are free and open to the public.
The Tribeca Talks: Pen to Paper series, hosted by Barnes & Noble, offers discussions like Illustrating History, about the fine art of biopics; New York Stories; and Authors at the Helm with jack-of-all-trades like Edward Burns. All three events will take place at the Barnes & Noble store in Union Square.
The Tribeca Talks: Industry panels touch on all aspects of the filmmaking trade. Topics run from practical—Dollars and Sense: Making the Most of Your Production Budget (sponsored by SAP)—to artistic: Talking With Pictures (sponsored by Kodak). We will also continue the conversation about shifting models of reaching audiences—Is the Sky Really Falling? A Closer Look at the Future of Film Distribution and Digital Cinema: Learning and Loving the New Distribution Paradigm— and explore the documentary genre, with Checking Up on Docs: A Conversation with Sheila Nevins and Docs Doing it Right (sponsored by Panavision).
