TKA Reporter's' Blog: What's New at the Street Fair

Allison

Hey buddies!

It's Allison reporting in yet again! Last week, I got to do an update on the Tribeca Family Festival. I did a similar assignment last year, the community walk. This year, it was the same fun and walking around Tribeca. However, last year we sampled delicious chocolate concoctions from Bazzini's, The Cosmopolitan Cafe, and the Duane Park Patisserie. This year we started our journey through Tribeca began on the corner of Harrison and Greenwich St. where I was greeted by Len, the Art Institute crew, and eventually Sandy, AJ, and Amelia. We started with a scripted intro on Greenwich St. From there, we walked over to Washington Market Park's glistening gazebo, scaled the twisted stairs to BMCC (Borough of Manhattan Community College), and lastly to the basketball courts by the West St. Walking Bridge. This year we followed a script on what we should say. Last year, we were doing more improve.

Anyhow, its time for me to go! Check back soon for another update on my assignments and the festival! Until then, I'm Allison with Tribeca Kids Access and see you at the festival!

AJ

Hey this is AJ.  Since the Tribeca Family Festival Street Fair is coming soon, I took a walk with fellow reporters Amelia and Allison.  We noticed there is a lot of construction on Greenwich Street so we asked The Family Festival’s Creative Director Peter Downing, “Where’s everything going to go”?

He told us that all of our sponsors will be on Greenwich Street including Radio Disney.  For all you sports fans out there, ESPN is on Duane Street this year.  At Washington Market Park there will be face painting, sand sculptures, storytelling and more. BMCC (Borough of Manhattan Community College) will have the big stages where performances will be happening all day long.

Amelia

Being a reporter is really exciting, especially when it's your first time. I had that feeling last week when I reported on the new Family Festival Street Fair set-up. It is really fun to be on the street in your T-shirt and press badge reporting with your friends watching like they're in a whole different world. I really liked the feeling of support from everyone around me and the fact that no one laughed when I got my lines wrong.

I think it is really great that kids can be reporters and I hope others kids get to enjoy this experience too.
