TKA Reporter's' Blog: No Woman, No Cry

If you’re looking for an inspiring story to motivate you to make a difference in the world, look no further than Christy Turlington Burns’ new documentary film, No Woman, No Cry. I had the honor of attending the red carpet premier, where I learned a lot on the topic of this film. The movie is about efforts to improve pre-natal care in poor countries so that women don’t die in childbirth, and all the horrors involved in their pregnancy.

My interviewing partner was a friend I made last year as a kid reporter, Allison. Even standing around waiting for the event to start was fun with her! We were both curious about how Christy came up with this depressing topic for her first film, so when she came down the red carpet that was the first question we asked. As it turns out, when she was pregnant with her first child, she experienced an unfortunate complication that she later learned was the #1 reason for death from pregnancy in poor countries. This gave her survivors guilt, and she went to research more on the matter, which lead to her documentary! She definitely seemed to care about the good she was doing, and I think she’s a really cool person for lending her hand in this persistent problem!!!
