TKA Reporters' Blog: Kobe Doin' Work

Truman

Hey guys,

I got to go to the red carpet of Kobe ‘Doin Work, the Spike Lee documentary with Jeffrey. It was AWESOME!  When Spike Lee walked down the red carpet he stopped for us. He was really nice. We asked him, “Are you a Kobe fan?” He said, “Absolutely, I love Kobe… how could you not.”  His “handler” had said only two questions (one for each of you). After we asked our two questions, the “handler” ran over and said, “Mr. Lee, we have to keep moving.” He said, “It’s ok, it’s ok. Slow down.” He gave us a couple more questions and then took pictures with us.

After we interviewed a few more celebrities, we interviewed Robert De Niro! He and his wife were walking down the carpet kind of ignoring everyone and only stopping for pictures. I knew we had to interview him. He was walking past us when I jumped up and shoved my microphone into his face and asked, “Do you like sports?”
He said, “Yeah…no.”
We asked him, “Are you a Kobe fan?”
He said, “I like Kobe, yes. I like him.”

Jeffrey

My stomach was in knots for hours after I got back from the premier of Kobe Doin’ Work, a film directed by Spike Lee and starring Kobe Bryant. I was there with another Tribeca Kids Access reporter, Truman.

We interviewed so many famous people that they all blended together in my mind. The most exciting interview I had was with Spike Lee, I was really nervous when I met him, but I was also curious. I asked Spike what inspired him to make the movie. His answer was that he always loved basketball, and the two basketball players he admires most are Lebron James and Kobe Bryant. He had to ask Kobe’s permission to do the movie, and he was really excited when Kobe said yes!

As if that wasn’t exciting enough, I also got to interview the director of Stomp The Yard. I asked him if he was a Kobe fan, and he said, “Of course.” He thinks Kobe is the best basketball player in the yard.

It was a night I will never forget!
