TKA Reporters' Blog: Family Festival Street Fair

Every event I've covered for the Tribeca Film Festival has been extremely fun. I got to do a lot of things, especially at the Street fair. I started with getting my hair spray-painted green, then moved on to a brief lesson of Tae Kwon Do. I punched and kicked the padding on the Master’s hands, and ducked when she swung her arm forward. I had to take my shoes off when I kicked, as I was wearing sandals, so my feet got dirty. It was still fun though.
Next we met up with Jeffrey, another kid reporter, and went to make our own granola. It was really yummy! I put chocolate chips, coconut shavings, and raisins in mine. When we finished, we went and made our own bracelets, then played a recycling game. For the game you had to try to throw plastic bottles into a recycling bin (from a few feet away). I wasn't very good at it, but Jeffery was, his prize was a huge foam finger, and mine was a tiny one you put on your finger.
After that, we went over to the Tribeca Film Feast, where Tribeca chefs did a demonstration of one of their recipes. While we waited, music played, and it just so happened that the music was meant for doing the chicken dance. I knew the dance, and Sandy pointed that out to the hosts of the Tribeca Film Feast. They made me come up and perform it for the audience. That was really embarrassing, but I survived. When the song ended, I went back to my seat, and the Film Feast began! It started with Marc Forgione, who made pasta with vegetables. Jeffrey and another volunteer from the audience helped him. Jeffrey pulverized some greens, and the other girl made dough. It sure seemed like it turned out well. We went over to the hula-hoops, and did that for a while. The next Film Feast event was cake decorating with Rachel Thebault from Tribeca Treats, and I volunteered. I didn't do much at first, but after a while I got to write Tribeca on the cake.
The last thing I did before heading back over to the spray-painting tent (to help raise money for my school PS 150) was taste the cake with Jeffrey and a couple members of the crew.
I can't believe the Festival is already over. It was so much fun and Peter, Sandy, and the crew were sooooo nice. I feel like getting on my knees and thanking them a zillion times, but they would probably think I was crazy.

The street fair was an awesome ending to one of the best experiences of my life—being a Tribeca Kids Access reporter. It was a wet day, but that didn’t stop me from having a great time. There were so many things to do that I could have gone back for another day. There was free popcorn, hockey, people doing incredible tricks on ramps, and much much more. The most incredible thing I did was make ravioli. It smelled great—I only wish I got to try it, but it wasn’t ready yet! I also got to watch Margaret decorate a cake and this time, I got to try it. It was delicious. Margaret should decorate more cakes! I hope I get to be a Tribeca Kids Access reporter next year.

Hey guys,
Egan and I got to go to the Tribeca Film Festival Street Fair. It was pretty cool, I go every year.
We watched the X-Games BMX Jams Tour and it was great. We interviewed a few of bikers about how they got to where they are now. They pretty much all said that a lot of the people in their town or city rode and they started doing it to. They were the best in their town or city and the X-Games noticed them. They were asked if they wanted to do some shows for the X-Games and they all said yes!
We also got some pitching lessons from the “NY Women’s Baseball”. We played street hockey and got to keep the jerseys. We played basketball and if you won you got a free New York Knicks shirt. You just have to make three lay-ups and a free throw shot.
Bye for the last time. It was awesome doing this.
