TKA Reporter's' Blog: Big

James

The second movie in a series at the World Financial Center Drive-In movie was BIG.  The tech guys set up a huge mylar screen and showed the movie to hundreds of people on the plaza. AJ and I got to introduce ourselves and the program on stage and then circled around the booths.  There was YOUTUBE free popcorn, (we loved it!) free smart and vitamin water, hula hoops and people in costumes to advertise Caesar’s.

AJ and I got to put on fake mustaches, hats and jackets and interviewed the swami.  I think he is supposed to be the carnival guy in the movie BIG, Zoltar. We asked Zoltar what our fortune was and he replied “we will be big in 15 years.”

The movie BIG came out in 1988 and is about a boy who wishes to be big and he finds in the end he wants to be a kid again first before he grows up too fast. Anyway, we were able to interview the screenwriter of the movie Mr. Gary Ross.  We asked him where he got the idea for the movie, and he said, “well, I figured I was a kid once, and the idea just came to me.  So I called a friend and we got together and we wrote this script in like, an hour and thirty minutes.”  I think that is big.

We learned that we needed more microphone practice and to learn not to “freeze” during an interview. It was a great experience and I enjoyed it a lot! AJ and I watched part of the movie, until we were too hungry and too tired to stay.

James out.

AJ

Hi it’s AJ. On Friday James and I went to the drive-in movie BIG and it was really, really BIG!

We interviewed a few kids and ran into some friends. The main question we asked them was “If you had one wish what would it be?” Most kids answered rich, sports player, or super powers. We also asked have you seen the movie, what is your favorite part, did you get a mustache, … (they were giving them out to all the kids at the drive-in.)

We interviewed Zaltar the fortuneteller and a few Romans. We also talked to Peter Downing, the Creative Director of the Family Festival and he has a BIG secret. He lives in Billy’s house and Josh’s house is next to his.

The screenwriter Gary Ross was there to, we interviewed him and learned he wrote the movie with his friend in only 2 hours!

AJ’s out.
