TKA Reporters' Blog: Favorite Spots in Tribeca

Abril

Hi again!

I have a lot to say about our walk around Tribeca. It was so fun!! Allison and Gavin came, and we talked and talked and talked. Allison and I were laughing hard because we had so much chocolate that we were being really random, and we had a sugar rush!

I was so excited to try The Magic Cupcake from Duane Park Patisserie because, believe it or not, I've never had one! If you've never had one, you should really try one. Just go to Duane Park Patisserie on Duane Street and there you will find the one and only MAGIC CUPCAKE!!!

Then we went to my favorite place Cosmopolitan Cafe. I love Cosmopolitan because everyone is so friendly. We had mini hot chocolates and they were delicious! Sometimes they have cool parties and each of them have their own theme. One party was based on Peeps (a delicious marshmallow candy) and everyone made costumes with Peeps attached to them. I wasn't able to go so the owner showed us pictures of the costumes. The costumes were really cool!!

Gavin's favorite place was Bazzini's. We sampled an ice cream called Moosetracks and it tasted like Rocky Road, but it was really creamy and sweet. We also tried chocolate covered almonds and they were really good too!

We all had a great experience, and we had learned a lot of interesting history about all the different places we went to. It was a lot of fun, and a good Ice Breaker for us. At the end we all said goodbye, and laughed about all the different things that happened. Going around Tribeca with two of your friends is really, truly, fun!

Ciao,
Abril

Hey guys,

I thought our walk around Tribeca was a blast! First, we all tasted some things from Bazzini's, which were chocolate covered almonds, and then Moosetracks (a killer type of ice cream).

After we had our delicious snack, we went outside and I interviewed Peggy, who has worked at Bazzini's over 20 years. When I was done interviewing her, we did a little filming and walked over to Duane Park Patisserie. Sandy and the crew got us a magic cupcake, and we walked across the street to Washington Market Park to eat the tasty delight. It took us a while to finish the cupcake because we were savoring it, and everybody was sad when it was finished. Boo-hoo.

But, that moment of sadness was not a long one. We soon got over it and walked over to a restaurant called Gee Whiz, and Allison and Abril told me how good it was, because I had never been there before.

Last but not least, we had hot chocolate at the Cosmopolitan Cafe, which I was told used to be a Ladies Tearoom. It was really good and refreshing, and we set off to make our conclusion and our introduction.

And that sums up our walk through Tribeca.

See ya,
Gavin

Hey! After the first meeting with the Kid's Access team and learning some tips from Peter and Sandy I was totally ecstatic to do the community walk. When I went to Bazzini's to meet with Sandy, Abril, and Gavin for the walk, I was stoked to find out everyone's favorite places in Tribeca. While waiting for the camera crew, Sandy went to get chocolate covered almonds and moose tracks ice cream (Yummy!). Abril, Gavin, and I talked about the weirdest stuff--just like Romeo and Juliet performed by ice cream, spaghetti, and other extremely random things.

Once the crew arrived, we exited Bazzini's immediately and Gavin started interviewing Bazzini's personnel. Abril and I stayed on the side and continued our random conversation about the buildings we saw. We both kept saying “random” so much that we decided to ban the word random. But that was a failure, and we all took off that ban a little while after. When Gavin was done interviewing, we all crossed the street and I learned something. What I learned was that next to the Food Emporium is... (drum roll please)... PS150 or Gavin's school!! I never knew that there was a school there!

After this amazing discovery, we went over to the Duane Park Patisserie to get magic cupcakes. It turns out that the magic cupcakes were called this because the owner, Madeline, use to bake with her mother when she was younger. The cupcakes had a filling inside and her friends would always ask her mother how the cream got inside and her mother's response was that it was magic. I really enjoyed that story and I loved the magic cupcake!! That cupcake really was magic on my taste buds!!

Right after we finished our cupcakes in Washington Market Park, we started walking towards Gee Whiz Diner and Cosmopolitan Cáfe.  Abril pointed out her school: PS 234 and I pointed out my school: IS 89. As we walked to the cafe we discussed a variety of topics. Once we arrived at the cafe, we enjoyed drinking bittersweet hot chocolate. We ended the walk by doing the openings and endings for the video of our walk.
