Go behind the "screens" and onto the red carpet with our Tribeca Kids Access student reporters. Come along with our press team as they attend film premieres, Drive-In screenings, and gala events, and visit local Tribeca community merchants.
The Tribeca Kids Access team is a talented group of 5th- through 8th-graders from downtown schools who ask the tough (and silly) questions for YOU!
We will update this site throughout the Festival, so check back and see all that's happening at the Tribeca Film Festival from a kid's point of view.

Hi I’m AJ.
Today I learned some important skills on how to be a reporter at the Tribeca Kids Access Media Session. One thing I learned was the best way to hold a microphone is to use the hand opposite of the camera so you don’t block the camera’s view. I also learned you need to research the films and the people in them so you’ll be prepared to ask them good and interesting questions on the red carpet.
I also met all the other reporters. I interviewed Allison who is an 8th grader at I S 289. We have a lot in common. We both play soccer and our positions are both midfield. I’m a little nervous but I’m also psyched about being a reporter. I’m looking forward to interviewing people on the red carpet.

Hey Guys!
It's that time again... the Tribeca Film Festival! Recently, there was a meeting for all the new and returning reporters, film crew from the Art Institute, and members of the Tribeca Film Festival family. I couldn't wait until 3:30, when all my anticipation for who were the returning reporters (myself included) and for who the new reporters for Kids Access were going to be.
When I got there, I coincidentally met Margaret another returning reporter that I interviewed last year for our activity. Once we got upstairs we were both greeted by the friendly familiar faces of Sandy, Jess, Kyle, and Peter. We took our press badge pictures and waited inside the theatre. This time we did the same activity as we did in last year's meeting. I got to interview AJ. As it turned out like last year, AJ and I had many things in common. For example we both played soccer and midfield position, what a serendipitous moment that was! AJ and I also both had younger siblings and loved many types of foods! It was so much fun interviewing AJ and learning about all the similarities and differences that we had. I wish that every Thursday was this amazing!
I am soooo excited to be covering the film festival again, I was so lucky to be picked again! I think that it's such an honor to be chosen to be a Tribeca Kids Access reporter, and I know that I will have so much fun! I'll talk to you guys again after all my interviews and events! Wish me luck and check back soon!
Love,
Allison

Becoming a reporter is a long and tiring journey. My teacher, Faith Matlin, started that journey for me when she picked me to be one of the 5th through 8th grade Tribeca Kids Access reporters at the Tribeca Film Festival.
My adventure began at the Tribeca Kids Access media training conference. As soon as I got to the conference, I could tell it was going to be fun. We got our pictures taken for our press badges, then grabbed some seats in the auditorium. In a little while we were told what we were going to do. We would be paired off to interview each other!
I interviewed Truman, a sixth grader at MAT. We asked each other the basics: age, school, favorites, etcetera. After we were all done, we went up on stage and “reported” our findings on camera. This was a learning experience for the new kids, and a refresher for the retuning ones, so we all soaked up the information.
We learned tips like how to hold the microphone (away from the camera,) to follow up questions (always have some!) Really, being a reporter isn’t that hard. I think the secret is to pretend you already know the person and are just refreshing your memory.
Before long we were done, and we left, but not without one final assignment… to write this! So there you are, what it’s like to be a reporter. Signing out!

Hey Guys!
On Thursday, March 25, I went to the Tribeca Film Center to talk with Sandy, Peter, and some of my old Tribeca Kids Access Reporter comrades. There were also quite a few new kid reporters, so I was excited to meet them.
At the beginning, we saw a few clips from last year's red carpets, drive-ins, etc. They were really cool and were amazingly filmed (kudos to the film crew). After that, we were paired up with the reporters that we didn't really know. I interviewed Kiara, one of the new reporters, and we got to know a few things about each other. When we were done interviewing, everyone had to go on stage and say all of the things they learned from the reporter they interviewed. Kiara and I went on stage first, and we told the audience about the things we learned. While doing that, Sandy and Peter reminded everyone that you have to hold the mic AWAY from the camera, so you don't block yourself, and that you also have to hold the mic close to your mouth, aka "eating the mic."
This is my second year at Tribeca Kids Access, and I'm already loving it again! Thanks Sandy, Peter, and the crew for inviting me to be part of Tribeca Kids Access again! I can't wait to start!

Being a reporter is hard work and I know that from personal experience because, I write for the P.S. 234's student newspaper "Froggy Fever." I feel happy and excited that I am joining Tribeca Kids Access. I can't wait for the real reporting to begin!
I know that working on the P.S. 234's "Froggy Fever" is very different than what I might be working on for the Tribeca Film Festival, but I am up to the challenge. I am excited, but being a reporter can be stressful. I worry about my work, editing and deadlines, I guess, just like a regular reporter. I have some time before the "real job" begins and it will give me time to prepare. I was surprised to be selected as one of two reporters from my school! I guess you never know what can happen!
I think it will be a great opportunity, because I will get to meet and speak with people who have different opinions, views and who do cool things. I think this will be a great experience for me and sharpen my writing abilities.

Hello all!
My first day was GREAT! My picture was taken and I learned how to use the microphone properly. I never knew how important it was to hold the microphone by using the inner hand, which ever is closer to the person I would be interviewing. This is so important because I definitely do not want to block the camera’s view.
Wow! I have this amazing job because I was interviewed by three teachers from my school to see if I would be a great candidate for this job. I was picked, (I guess they liked my sense of humor). I know by having the chance to represent TKA, something good will come out of this. It will help improve my writing skills, and become a much better speaker. SO WISH ME LUCK!!!!!

My first meeting with Tribeca Kids Access was definitely a learning experience. When I arrived, I was nervous because it was my first time around a camera crew. Also, there was a bunch of paperwork that I had to fill out which kind of intimidated me. Once I settled down, I started feeling really excited about the opportunity.
After we got the paperwork done and our photos were taken for our press passes, I was given a partner to work on my interview skills. My partner, Gavin, had taken part in this event last year. I got the chance to ask him questions about himself and he asked questions to get to know me. After a while, they brought us up onto the stage to present what we learned about each other.
I listened closely to the directions that Sandy and Peter gave us on how to improve our interview strategies. There is a lot to remember if you want to be a good interviewer. I look forward to the next meeting and learning more tips and information so I can do a great job on the red carpet. This opportunity is so cool!

It is an amazing thing to be the output of someone’s personal ideas, hobbies, and origins which can surprise, and interest a community of different people. I grasped an early experience with this in the media session on Thursday, where I felt what it is like to report in front of a camera for an audience I want to impress. A small yet inspiring activity, it was an amazing feeling to display information to the camera in an energetic way focusing on a kid that I might or might not relate to, and grow a better sense of understanding of some of the people in my Tribeca community.
I think that interviewing someone is more than feeding information to the camera or audience about that person. In fact, interviewing someone is connecting to each other, and realizing who we all are as people. I have yet to experience interviewing stars, or celebrities, but I am sure that it will be a blast, and I cannot wait to go along on this adventure as a new reporter!

Hello again!
This is my second year as a kid reporter for Tribeca Kids Access, and I am extremely thrilled! Today I attended the media session after school, where Peter and Sandy refreshed my mind by reviewing the basics of holding a successful interview, as well as learned some new things. In order to be more comfortable around our fellow reporters, Sandy helped us get to know each other by sorting us into groups of two - making sure we didn't already know our partner. Our assignment for the next few minutes was to learn absolutely everything we could about our coworker, then introduce each other to the rest of the room. It was really cool, because I ended up actually getting to know a lot about my partner, Kaila, even if I did mess up once or twice while introducing her...
Afterwards, we went over what exactly it meant to be a kid reporter, and how to make the best of it. Just like last year, Peter and Sandy emphasized the point that "curiosity is the key" and how follow-up questions are always a must. All through the meeting I had the butterflies, but it was good kind of nervous, the kind that screams "I'm so excited!!!" As I was a returning reporter, my nerves weren't as flustered as last year, but it's hard not to be at least a bit jumpy when you're in the midst of such an enthralling experience. This media session was by far the highlight of my day, and I'm super hyped up to hear what awesome events I get the honor of covering!

Hi!
Last Thursday, I went to the “orientation” of Tribeca Kids Access for the second time. It was really fun, and I think the new recruits will be very good. After a short video of some of the stuff we did last year, we split up into partners and interviewed each other. I was partnered with Amelia. I learned that we had a lot of things in common. First, I realized we both had little brothers who were around the same age, and we both agreed they were very annoying. Sorry all little brothers who read this! I learned her favorite food is a hamburger with ketchup and pickles. She loves to read, and her favorite book is “Magyk” which I read and liked also. I’m very excited to cover more movies, and tell you about them! Talk to you soon!
Bye!
